In 1946, an abandoned gold mine was transformed into Cardinal Village Resort, an ever-popular fishing destination nestled in the High Sierra. Since 1985, the Cluff Family has proudly continued its legacy, welcoming guests to enjoy mountain hospitality in every season.
Our regular season runs from the end of April through the end of October, when all fourteen cabins, the Cardinal Café, and the General Store are open.
During the winter season (our “off-season”), the resort becomes a quiet, peaceful retreat surrounded by snow-covered pines and mountain peaks, a perfect place to unplug and enjoy the serenity of winter. Our café and store will be closed.
We have seven cabins available during the winter months, each offering a cozy and comfortable stay with everything you need for a rustic mountain getaway: Loch Leven, Moonlight, Topsy Turvy, Baboon, Hungry Packer, Thunder and Lightning. The rates for each cabin are discounted for the winter rentals, and we are offering further discounts for monthly rentals!

CANCELLATION POLICY FOR ALL CABINS:
Cancelling your reservation will incur a $50 cancellation fee.
— If you cancel 30 days or more prior to your arrival date, the remaining amount from your deposit will be refunded to the card we have on file.
— If you cancel your reservation within 30 days of your arrival date, your deposit will be forfeited unless we are able to re-rent your cabin.

Getting Here & Snow Conditions
Cardinal Village typically receives a good amount of snowfall throughout the winter. CalTrans plows Highway 168 all the way up to the closed gate leading to Lake Sabrina (about a quarter mile past our turnoff), and the county plows Cardinal Road to the entrance of the resort.
Highway access is maintained, but conditions can vary. Please message us before your stay for the latest snow updates.
We strongly recommend a 4WD or AWD vehicle (we wouldn’t recommend a Prius!) for winter travel.
Groceries & Supplies
Our General Store and Cardinal Café are closed until the end of April. Please plan to pick up groceries, firewood, or any other supplies in the town of Bishop, about 15 miles down the hill.
Amenities
You’ll have your own private cabin for a quiet and restful stay. Parking is available directly in front of your cabin. Each cabin will have WiFi access, a kitchen, a bathroom, and additional amenities.
During Your Stay
- Snow removal: If a storm occurs during your stay, we’ll plow a path to your cabin as soon as possible so you can drive in and out of the property. A shovel will be provided outside your cabin; guests are responsible for clearing personal walkways or around vehicles as needed.
- Laundry: There are no washers or dryers in the cabins. Laundry facilities are available in Bishop.
