About Us

Welcome to Cardinal Village Resort

Searching for a cabin rental? Bishop, CA is home to Cardinal Village Resort. We are nestled in an aspen grove at the edge of the tiny community of Aspendell. The Village was built at the turn of the century to serve the gold mine which is located a short hike from the Lodge. Our resort is bordered to the west by Bishop creek with a picturesque pond teaming with trophy trout at the east of the property.

At an elevation of 8500 ft. we are the nearest lodging to Piute Pass, Sabrina Basin, and Lamarck trailheads; offering miles of hiking with many pristine backcountry lakes. We are also within five minutes’ drive of great fishing at Lake Sabrina, North Lake, Intake II, and the John Muir Trail. There are plenty of attractions and activities nearby.

We have a rich history as the mill site of Cardinal Gold Mine dating back 115 years. Most of our cabins were built at the turn of the century to house and serve the miners. The main lodge was the paymaster’s quarters. Golden Trout, our largest cabin with room for 8-16 guests, was originally the stable. Thunder and Lightning is a duplex with adjoining doors, built in the 1970s. Hungry Packer is the newest addition to the Village, built in 1996. The rest of the cabins were homes to the miners. We work year-round to keep each cabin updated yet they all maintain that rustic High Sierra feeling.

All of our cabins have kitchens with basic utensils and of course, indoor plumbing. Outdoors you will find a BBQ, fire pit and picnic area at each cabin. (Exception: Fishgut and Bottleneck are our two dry cabins.)

We supply the sheets, blankets, pillows and towels and our own Cardinal Village glycerin soap! (Exception: Golden Trout guests provide their own sheets and towels if renting Upstairs! Sheets and towels are provided for Downstairs Golden Trout.)

A three-night minimum is required. Rollaway beds are available for an additional $15 per night. A 50% deposit is due at the time of reservation. (Exception to the three-night minimum: Fishgut and Bottleneck are available for one-night rentals.)

Sorry, but we do not allow pets.
