Welcome to Cardinal Village Resort

Housekeeping, Cabins, General Store, and Cardinal Cafe

Cardinal Village Resort is nestled in an aspen grove at the edge of the tiny community of Aspendell. The Village was built at the turn of the century to serve the gold mine which is located a short hike from the Lodge. The Mine changed hands several times and finally shut down in the late '30's. In 1946 Cardinal Village began serving fishermen and their families. Our resort is bordered to the west by Bishop creek with a picturesque pond teaming with trophy trout at the east of the property. The canyon is deep and beautiful. Every cabin has a breathtaking view of the majestic Cardinal Rock towering above it.

At an elevation of 8500 ft. we are the nearest lodging to Piute Pass, Sabrina Basin, and Lamarck trailheads; offering miles of hiking with many pristine backcountry lakes. We are also within five minutes drive of great fishing at Lake Sabrina, North Lake, Intake II and the John Muir Trail.

For further family outdoor recreation, we offer guided horseback tours of the gold mine. Sign up when you arrive with Bishop Pack Outfitters located at the Cardinal Corral. If you are interested in renting a motorboat or better yet--the pontoon boat, Rick and Patti can hook you up at Sabrina Boat Landing.

Ready to start your High Sierra adventure?

Cardinal Village Resort is the Eastern Sierra's best-kept secret! We have a rich history as the mill site of Cardinal Gold Mine dating back 115 years. Most of our cabins were built at the turn of the century to house and serve the miners. The main lodge was the paymaster's quarters. Golden Trout, our largest cabin with room for 8-16 guests, was originally the stable. Thunder and Lightning is a duplex with adjoining doors, built in the 1970's. Hungry Packer is the newest addition to the Village, built in 1996. The rest of the cabins were homes to the miners. We work year-round to keep each cabin updated yet they all maintain that rustic High Sierra feeling.

All of our cabins have kitchens with basic utensils and of course, indoor plumbing. Outdoors you will find a BBQ, firepit and picnic area at each cabin.

We supply the sheets, blankets, pillows and towels and our own Cardinal Village glycerin soap! (Exception: Golden Trout, Bottleneck, and Fishgut guests provide their own sheets and towels.)

A two-night minimum is required, three nights on holiday weekends. Rollaway beds are available for an additional $15 per night. A 50% deposit is due at the time of reservation.

Sorry, but we do not allow pets.
